What is a Farm Share Membership?
A Farm Share Membership is also known as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). The Farm Share Membership creates a direct partnership between the customer and the farmer. You, the consumer, help the farmers guarantee the sale of their produce at the beginning of the season and you can count on weekly, local, and freshly harvested produce! Enrolling in a Farm Share Membership will help Plant It Forward Farmers to sell their produce and earn a living wage for themselves and their families.
What will my Farm Share Membership include?
The Farm Share Membership is a pre-paid subscription of weekly vegetables for a season. The Farm Share Memberships includes:
- A weekly share of locally grown and freshly harvested produce straight from our Houston farms. One grand share will provide a household of 3-5 with produce for one week and a petit share will provide produce for a household of 1-2. Depending on the amount of vegetables you incorprate into your diet, the grand share may suffice for a smaller group of vegetarians. Shares include a variety of 6-8 different types of produce each week.
- Invitations to farm events such as farm tours and volunteer days so that you can see where your food comes from and meet the talented farmers who grow your food.
- A weekly newsletter with updates from the farm and tips and recipes on preparing your vegetables.
- A reusable and insulated bag to keep your veggies fresh in the refrigerator all week.
What will be in the weekly farm share?
There will be a variety of 6-8 vegetables and/or herbs in each share. Some examples of what a Spring and Summer share could include are: Heirloom tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, squash, green beans, long beans, bush beans, sylvetta arugula, peppers, or malabar spinach. Some examples of what a Fall and Winter shares could include are: lettuce mix or mesclun, fennel, many varieties of kale, collards, dill, beets, turnips, parsnips, Swiss chard, or French sorrel.
Does the produce always come from the farm where I pick up my share?
The produce you receive comes from one of four Plant It Forward Farms which are located in Montrose and Southwest Houston. We have ten farmers growing produce on four properties. The farmers will often trade produce among themselves in order to provide you with the best variety possible.
Are there any chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers used?
NO! All of the produce is non-GMO and synthetic chemical free. All produce is grown sustainably, using ORGANIC principles.
