Internship – Volunteer Program Assistant
POSITION: Volunteer Program Assistant
PURPOSE: Assist PIF Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator in all aspects of volunteer program management, including recruitment, training, database management, monitoring and evaluation, and identifying new opportunities for volunteer engagement.
About PIF:
Plant It Forward Farms (PIFF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to empower resettled refugees to operate sustainable urban farming businesses in Houston, Texas. We are dedicated to enabling our network of skilled farmers to earn a living through dignified, meaningful work and to providing our community with farm-fresh produce.
Farmers in our program are trained in entrepreneurship skills and bio-intensive vegetable production methods, then placed on urban plots where they grow and sell produce. Key markets include PIFF’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, sales to local restaurants, and local farmers’ markets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct volunteer orientations ;
- Assist with day-to-day volunteer management activities ;
- Research new ways to sustain a robust volunteer program (e.g. volunteer recruitment and retention, training, etc.) ;
- Evaluate current screening, interviewing and training processes;
- Research best practices and create recommendations for improvement ;
- Assist in the development and execution of volunteer appreciation event ;
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS: Professional attitude and appearance, self-starter, energetic, assertive, volunteer experience with multiple groups, detail-oriented, well-organized, able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively, excellent communication and customer service skills, able to successfully work in a collaborative, and team-oriented. Graphic design skills preferred. Must have own laptop/computer.
